Ghanaian midfielder Majeed Ashimeru honored the memory of late Dancehall artiste Rudeboy Ranking by scoring the winning goal for Anderlecht against Royal Antwerp.

Rudeboy Ranking passed away in April 2023 after a brief illness. Both Ashimeru and Rudeboy grew up in Nima.

To commemorate the one-year anniversary of his friend's passing, the Black Stars midfielder dedicated his crucial goal and shared a heartfelt message on social media.

"Game ain't based on sympathy! Rudeboy Ranking you gone but never forgotten, your legacy lives on," Ashimeru wrote on his Instagram page.

Ashimeru, who came off the bench in the 74th minute, needed only five minutes to find the back of the net.

After missing most of last season due to injury, Ashimeru is off to a strong start this campaign, contributing to back-to-back victories for Anderlecht.

The 26-year-old played in the league opener against STVV last week and made a significant impact as a second-half substitute on Sunday.

Anderlecht initially took the lead with an own goal by Senne Lammens, but Royal Antwerp equalized later in the first half through former Tottenham defender Tobi Alderweireld.

Ashimeru then secured the win with a decisive goal ten minutes before the end of the match.
