Ghana forward Majeed Waris has paid tributes to former striker of Nantes Emiliano Sala after scoring in the French side's 1-1 draw with Saint Etienne on Wednesday night.

It was a solemn night at the Stade de la Beaujoire, when Nantes were playing their first match since the Argentine forward went missing enroute to Cardiff after signing a deal with the Premier League club.

Saint Etienne's Remy Cabella opened the scoring shortly after the break, tapping the ball in from millimeters out after Nantes had attempted to clear.

But Majeed Waris salvaged a point for Nantes with 20 minutes to play, celebrating by tapping a photograph of Sala on a top under his shirt.

Waris posted on Twitter an emoji asking fans to pray for the player to be found.

Players of Nantes wore shirts bearing the name of former team-mate Emiliano Sala during their first match since the Argentine striker went missing.

Sala and pilot David Ibbotson were on board a light aircraft that disappeared over the Channel Islands on 21 January.

Emotional tributes were paid to Sala, before Wednesday's 1-1 draw with Saint-Etienne in Ligue 1.
