Accra, Oct. 25, GNA - The eighth week matches of the Glo Premier League was characterized by major surprises with many of the results unexpected and thus causing some drastic changes on the League log. It was a week that saw, Hearts, King Faisal, New Edubiase, Berekum Arsenals and Kessben FC taking full advantage of their home grounds to subject their opponents to humiliating defeats.

Perhaps the biggest surprise was the near demolishing exercise undertaking by King Faisal over city rivals, Kumasi Asante Kotoko as the latter had to claw back from a 3-0 deficit for a face saving 2-3 defeat at the end of the game.

For many pundits, Faisal was not given a dogs chance to carry the day taking into consideration their recent form which has seen them hang around the relegation zone since the start of the League. The result therefore serves as a major morale booster for Faisal to continue their struggle for survival in yet another soccer season. Accra Hearts of Oak's massive 3-0 victory over Wa All Stars may not be classified as a shock but the margin was unexpected after the Phobians have suffered an embarrassing defeat at the hands of the same side last season at the same venue of Ohene Djan in Accra.

The victory for obvious reasons comes with a lot of positive implications for the Phobians who have not been that consistent since the start of the competition.

Hearts will seek to capitalize on the victory to secure another one against their arch rivals Kotoko next Sunday at the Baba Yara stadium, Kumasi in what has been described as Ghana's version of the "El Classico."

Troubled Obuasi Ashgold may have succeeded in bringing the smiles back onto the faces of their teeming fans after stunning Heart of Lions at Kpando with a lone goal victory.

Similarly there are still doubts as to how New Edubiase's 2-0 sound beating of the star-studded Berekum Chelsea side was made possible, even though it was at the back yard of the one season old premiership side. Chelsea, which has been touted as one of the best teams on the local scene and with a cr=E8me of quality materials at their disposal, could have gone home with at least a draw, but Edubiase have demonstrated a high quality of football in the League so far and have gone ahead to achieve the enviable feat.

Kessben FC's drubbing of B. A. Stars as well as Berekum Arsenals 2-0 win over Tudu Mighty Jets, however were to be expected because the newly promoted sides have been restricted to the relegation ranks since joining the premiership, whilst Real Tamale United (RTU) could have taken advantage of their home game to pick the three maximum point from the hands of Liberty Professionals but they woefully failed and had to split the points when the needed the points most.

The "Pride of the North" is yet to find their feet in the competition to achieve that feat, hence granting Liberty the opportunity to run away with a point from the fortress.

Apart from the major shocks recorded in the season, it was a week that saw the highest number of goals scored in the competition so far. A total of 18 goals were scored in the eight matches played from six wins and two draws.

For obvious reasons, the home games had the biggest of the bite with a credit of 14 goals, whilst away matches recorded a meagre four goals.

On a rather soothing note, the week went without any act of violence as witnessed in the previous weeks, but it has given a clearer sign of a competition that is taking shape by the week. If the current standings of the League is anything to go by, then one of the so called smaller clubs may be on their way to cause another surprise at the end of the season.
