Malik Pimpong, the son of former Black Stars striker Razak Pimpong, has been named in Denmark's Under-17 squad for the 2024 Inter-Nordic tournament.
Denmark's U17 head coach, Søren Hermansen, announced his squad on Tuesday, July 2, 2024. Malik Pimpong was among the 20-man squad.
The tournament, which kicks off on August 1, will see Malik and his Danish team take on Finland U17 on August 1, followed by a game against Norway two days later, and conclude their campaign against Sweden on August 8.
The selection of Malik Pimpong by the Danes does not make him ineligible for future Black Stars call-ups.
Malik, who plies his trade with the youth team of FC Midtjylland, could still play for Ghana.
In January 2024, Malik signed a professional contract with Midtjylland and was praised by the academy manager, Flemming Broe.
"Malik is a great talent who has a good athletic package. He is technically skilled and can score goals. At the same time, he has a good winning mentality, and we are convinced that there is something exciting hidden in him," Broe said.
"Now, it's about him building an even higher base level. He is still young, and there are many things to work on, but he has good prerequisites in terms of being able to take big steps in the next few years."
Razak Pimpong is widely remembered for his performance for Ghana in the country's maiden World Cup appearance in 2006.
He is particularly remembered for his performance against the United States of America, where he won a penalty for Ghana.
In all, Razak Pimpong made ten appearances for Ghana.
