Manchester City are prepared to go all out to sign Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang if Sergio Aguero leaves the club, according to ?the Sun.

The Argentine forward has seemingly fallen behind new arrival Gabriel Jesus, who has impressed since he joined from Palmeiras last month.

Aguero has denied rumours that he could be set for an exit from the Eithad, although there remains doubt over his long-term future.

And the Sun claim that City will make a £40m approach for Bundesliga top scorer Aubameyang if Aguero's time at the club comes to an end.

The Gabon international has been the centre of links with many of Europe's top clubs since making his name with Dortmund, notably Real Madrid, who he expressed his desire to play for at some stage in his career.

But it appears City could be the front runners for his signature, with first choice target Antoine Griezmann bound for Manchester United.

Aubameyang has reportedly made clear his intentions to leave Dortmund in the summer, and City have now made contact with his representatives.

Real Madrid's interest is believed to have diminished somewhat with their focus on bringing in a new goalkeeper.

But Los Blancos could be in for Aguero should he become available in the summer, paving the way for City to target Aubameyang.

Aubameyang has scored 21 goals in all competitions so far this season, 17 of which have come in the Bundesliga.
