Maribor coach Boštjan Cesar praised Ghanaian forward Benjamin Tetteh after his impactful debut goal, which secured a crucial 1-1 draw against Mura in the Slovenian top flight.

Tetteh, who joined Maribor on loan from French club FC Metz, scored in injury time to rescue a point for his new team at the Mestni Stadion Fazanerija.

The Ghanaian striker, previously signed by Metz in a €1.8 million transfer from Hull City, struggled to find form in France, making just 13 appearances last season without scoring.

After Metz’s relegation to Ligue 2, the loan to Maribor presents Tetteh with a fresh opportunity to regain his scoring touch.

"It's great when a top player like Tetteh scores like that in his first match," Cesar remarked.

"He's shown quality and works hard in training, though he still has some physical issues. It’s encouraging for him to score; I believe he’ll only get better. He’s had his share of injury problems but has been training with full effort, and his fitness is improving. We’ll gradually give him more minutes.”

Cesar’s positive outlook highlights Maribor’s confidence in Tetteh’s potential as the Ghanaian forward looks to make a strong comeback.
