The use of recreational drugs including marijuana is “widespread” among footballers in Ghana, veteran coach JE Sarpong has warned.

Sarpong, who has coached several clubs over two decades including giants Asante Kotoko says the use of recreational drugs was commonplace.

The former Liberty Professionals and Great Olympics gaffer insists he "has no problem with players who are weed smokers once it helped his team to win matches".

“It is a bad practice if it will win the match I don’t mine. If my team win the match, I take my winning bonus and am gone," he told Angel FM

“What I will do for my team to win is what is important”, the former Asante Kotoko coach said.

The Ghana FA and football clubs do not take drug testing seriously and mostly non-existent before the start of any season.
