Massive welcome planned for Queens

The Black Queens, the female national soccer team, which arrives on Thursday from the United States after being knocked out of the FIFA Women's World Cup will receive a red carpet treatment after all.

Speaking to the GNA Sports, Mr Rashid Bawa, Minister of State responsible for Youth, Education and Sports (YES) said the team has made the nation proud and there is the need to give them a befitting welcome. Consequently, he said, the team will be checked into Sanaa Lodge at Tesano and later floated through the principal streets of Accra to enable Ghanaians to have glimpses of their heroines.

The minister said the team will meet with the sector ministers, Mr Kwadwo Baah Wiredu and Bawa where a special package will be announced for them.

Mr. Bawa said the team will decamp after Thursday and regroup after five days to begin training for a first leg Athens Olympic Games qualifying match against Democratic Republic of Congo on October 25.
