WAFA SC opened their campaign with a 1-1 draw against giants Asante Kotoko at the WAFA Stadium in Fievie, Sogakope on Sunday.

But for the visitors it is more than just one point on the board- since their last two visits have been enveloped with defeats.

It took just three minutes for the Academy Boys to open the scoring when prodigy Aminu Mohammed fired home a free-kick from the edge of the box.

The former Ghana U17 striker had won the free-kick seconds earlier.

Striker Yakubu Mohammed snatched the equalizer in the 18th minute when he fortuitously directed Jordan Opoku's short into the net.

His deflection left goalkeeper Richmond Ayi completely beaten.

The visitors could have taken the lead after 27 minutes but defender Wahab Adams, unmarked inside the box, directed his diving header wide.

Kotoko were beginning to find their rhythm at this point.

On the hour mark, Mohammed nearly scored a brace to put Kotoko ahead but his attempt was smothered by Ayi between the sticks for WAFA.

WAFA scored before the half time whistle but Richard Danso was in an offside position. He followed up after goalkeeper Felix Annan had made a superb one-handed save.

In the second half, chances were few but the plaudits must go to goalkeeper Felix Annan who kept the Porcupine Warriors in the game.

He produced three qualities saves, including a late scare when his own defender Emmanuel Owusu headed back an in-swinger.

The former academy player stretched to parry it away.
