The Communications Director of Ghana Premier League side Medeama SC, Patrick Akoto has confirmed plans by his club to build the first ever roofed stadium in Ghana.

He said, it is for this reason that their traditional home venue, the Tarkwa and Aboso Park, often referred to as the T&A Park has been closed down for works on the new project to begin.

According to Patrick Akoto, the completion of the renovation works will make the T&A Park becoming one of the finest stadiums in the country.

He added that the new look T&A Park, when completed will be the first roofed stadium in Ghana with an estimated seating capacity of 10,000.

It is expected that the ultra-modern edifice will be completed in the next two years.

The $13 million project is being funded by Goldfields, Tarkwa-Damang.

Speaking to JOY News on their preparedness for the new league season which begins next month, Akoto said “if you are a Premier League club, or a Division One League club that exists to participate in the league then you have to be prepared and ready. There are challenges, especially financially but that is no excuse not to get prepared. Take Medeama for example, we are now looking for a home venue because the Tarkwa and Aboaso park has been shut down and undergoing reconstruction to make it a modern edifice of 10,000 capacity roofed stadium.

“For now, we are considering 3 venues for our home games. There is a possibility of playing our games at the Arkon park in Tarkwa. We are also considering Takoradi and also the Cape Coast stadium. We are confident of making a decision before the league commences.”

Last week, the GFA confirmed that the 2019/20 Ghana Premier League had been rescheduled to December 28 after a meeting held between the Ghana FA Executive Council and the Premier League clubs.

The meeting was held at the M Plaza Hotel to discuss issues concerning the league especially on club licensing and the date for the commencement.

At the meeting, both sides agreed on the new commencement which was originally set on 21 December.

The league will start simultaneously with the National Leagues - Women's League and Division One League.
