It is the wish of Medeama Sporting Club that the Ghana Premier League resumes when conditions are right for football, the club’s Chief Executive Officer has told ghanaweb.com.

With just four points separating them and first-placed Aduana, the Yellow and Mauves who recently landed a lucrative sponsorship deal with Goldfields Ghana have a clear chance of landing the title.

The Ghana Football Association on Thursday engaged representatives of the various Premier League clubs on the way forward for the league which has seen no action since March 15 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

James Essilfie said that a continuation of the league will be beneficial to all clubs and the GFA.

Essilfie admitted that though he hopes for a return of football, his club will not pressurize the FA into making any decision that does not conform with the protocols for fighting the coronavirus pandemic.

He emphasized that football should return when health officials declare it safe for people to enjoy the beautiful game.

“We at Medeama want the league to continue. The FA should not cancel it because it will create issues . The league must be played but when everything is right. Lives are more important so football should be played when it’s safe”, he said.

Touching on the impact of the pandemic on the club’s finances, Essilfie said that the club has been badly hit by the absence of football.

“We have been badly affected by the lack of football. Imagine paying people for not working. It’s no fault of the players that there’s no football but I just want to know how much we are losing. We don’t receive anything from the gates. We just hope and pray that this virus will go away very soon for football to return because clubs are suffering”, he said.
