Accra, Sept 26, GNA 96 The Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) on Tuesday, organized a one day seminar on boxing reportage for sports journalists in the Accra Metropolis.
The seminar is aimed at preparing journalists towards the impending boxing league dubbed 'Men Only Boxing Championship=94 so as to ensure accurate reportage during the league.
The participants were taken through the legal, administrative framework and the corporate vision of the GBA.
The seminar is also to make journalists become abreast with structures of the GBA as well as its development plans for the sport. Mr Moses Foh-Amoaning, Chairman of the GBA who delivered the lecture said his outfit has for the past years' succeeded in procuring boxing rings, national belts, promoted the manufacture of locally based training rings, gloves, pads and punching bags among others. He said that the GBA has also conducted numerous workshops and seminars for referees, judges and coaches.
The GBA has crowned it with four African titles despite inadequate funding, lack of equipment and other related problems confronting the Authority.
The GBA Chairman said the Authority intends to maintain and continue with the numerous workshops for stakeholders and to establish strong promotional links that will ensure progress of boxing in the country. According to Mr Foh-Amoaning, the Authority as part of its long term plan, intends to make the GBA a viable and independent body with an effective secretariat equipped with all the modern facilities.
Mr Foh-Amoaning added that the GBA will soon come out with a newsletter and establish a website for the promotion of its activities. Ace boxing referee J.A. Annan and Attaa Eddie Pappoe, an international boxing judge also took the participants through the technicalities involved in refereeing and judging whilst Peter Essandor, Technical Director of the GBA also gave a lecture on general technicalities of boxing.
The participants expressed delight at the seminar saying it had greatly enhanced their knowledge of the sport.
