Dutch attacker Memphis Depay was on target for his country on Tuesday evening when they lost 3-2 to Austria.

The talented forward started for the Netherlands in their final Group D game of the ongoing 2024 European Championship.

Although the Netherlands were tagged as favourites, they could not live up to the hype and fell to the opponent.

The underdogs took the lead just six minutes into the first half, thanks to an own goal from Donyell Malen.

Before halftime, Cody Gakpo found the back of the Austrian net to restore parity to the game.

After the recess, Romano Schmid scored in the 59th minute to give Austria a 2-1 lead.

Although Memphis Depay would also equalize to make it 2-2 in the 75th minute, Austria sealed a 3-2 win at full-time, thanks to a strike from Marcel Sabitzer.

The victory has seen Austria stun both France and the Netherlands to win Group D and advance to the knockout stage.

Meanwhile, France and the Netherlands are also through to the knockout stage.
