Inter Allies FC defender Baba Mensah has been invited to join Ghana local senior team and the Under 23 squad ahead of qualifiers for both the All African Games and the African Nations Championship.
Playing for two national teams at the same period seems an arduous task, but the 21-year-old centre back feels honoured and determined to do his best.
“Playing for the U23 as well as the local Black Stars will not have any bad effect on me. I know it’d be tough and have been training everyday for it,” Baba told Goal.
“I’m happy and proud to play with both teams and I’m keen on delivering the goods.”
Baba will feature for the Black Meteors against Mozambique in the All African Games qualifiers on Sunday before joining the local Black Stars ahead of the 2016 African Nations Championship qualifiers.
“I am expecting God’s favour in order for us to overcome Mozambique. We know it’s not going to be easy but I’m confident we’ll carry the day,” he said.
Baba believes his hard work and current form made it possible for him to catch the attention of both coaches who are glad to have one of the best defenders of the domestic league in their respective teams.
“The coaches of the two national teams have noticed what I’m doing and I promise not to disappoint them,” he said.
Baba was a member of the 2011-2012 Ghana U17 team that failed to qualify for the World Cup. He also played with the U20 outfit at the 2013 World Youth Championship in Turkey.
