Mensah's recovery gets a boost

Olympique Lyon has prescribed a new therapy to speed up the healing process of injury-prone John Mensah.

This new treatment is expected to suppress his pain to allow him not to feel any side effects.

The centre-back has not featured for the newly-crowned French Cup champions since returning from the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

Mensah aggravated a thigh injury during the semi-final defeat to eventual winners Zambia.

"It's a new machine the club doctor has introduced to help John make a quick return from the troublesome injury," a source close to the Ghana captain said.

"Even though he currently doesn't experience any pains the club believe it will be useful to him.

Lyon have lost defender Dejan Lovren who suffered a fracture in his right foot during the 1-0 win over Quevilly in the French Cup final last Sunday.

If Mensah recovers in time, he could be handed playing time before the end of the French Ligue 1 season.

Mensah signed a five-year deal with the club worth £ 8.4 million in 2008 and has a year left on his current contract.
