Mighty Jets drop points at home again

Mighty Jets failed to win their fourth straight home game. They drew Wa All Stars 1-1 at the Tema Sports Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The home side raced into an early lead after four minutes, but typically lost concentration and allowed the northerners to equalize late in the first half. In fairness, All Stars could have won, having missed a penalty given them in the middle of the first half.

Tamimu Muntari controlled well just after kickoff to put Jets in the lead, with Abdul Ganiyu taking credit for good midfield play that led to the cross. Robert Dabuo could not save the shot that whizzed past him following a tricky cross from the right.

But All Stars were calm and continued keeping their shape and moving forward. By 20 minutes, it was clear their persistence had to pay off. A move into the Jets area led to a handball for All Stars in the thirty-fourth minute. Samuel Azumah stepped and got his effort saved by Issahaku Shaibu.

The ecstatic Jets players hugged their keeper, but it was short-lived, as on 43 minutes the away side leveled. A corner from the left saw an unmarked Azumah rise, power a header into the net for the goal. He redeemed himself, in addition to getting his second goal of the campaign.

Second half

The game became more physical, with several players going to ground in crunching tackles but the battles were mostly ensconced in midfield. Winfred Dormon was having a bad day and he was subbed for Abubakar Sidi, with last season’s captian Yahaya Mubarak also getting game time.

A slew of chances went Jets’ way but the emphasis on playing good football without result hurt them as the northerners went away with a point. All Stars next play Hearts of Oak in Wa, their home base.
