The 66 Artillery Regiment (Volta Barracks) football team, on Monday, struggled to beat a media select side in Ho to mark this year’s Africa Union (AU) Day.
The soldiers who ran all day, had to wait until the final embers of the game to slot a lowly one through forests of legs to record a 3-2 win over the media.
The soldiers took the game to the media and scored two quick goals within 15 minutes, through Lance Bombadier Hornu Bronu, who rounded up three defenders before releasing a thunderbolt for the first goal.
His second goal was in a similar fashion.
The media team came into the game in the 20th minute, after Mustapha Haji of Volta Star Radio capitalized on a defensive blunder, and delivered a left-footed shot for the first goal for the media.
After recess, Randy Ahadji of TOSH FM was brought down in the 18-yard, and he converted it perfectly for an equalizer for the media.
The media dominated the game in the last 15 minutes but just as they thought all was ended, and waiting for the final whistle; lanky Lance Bombadier Iddrisu Abubakar chanced on a loose ball and tapped it into the net as the winning goal for the soldiers.
Lt Col. Selorm Kwesi Amengor, Commanding Officer of the Regiment, in a pre-match discussion, commended the Regional branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), for organising the event and said it would further deepen military/media relations.
