Milo ties "striking competition" to Gyan's return

Accra, Jan. 29, GNA - Black Stars trainer Milovan Rajevac is expecting the return of striker Asamoah Gyan to ignite competition in the team's attack. Gyan makes his Stars comeback in almost a year in next month's friendly against the Pharaohs of Egypt, and the timing excites Milovan. Zamalek striker Manuel Junior Agogo, Matthew Amoah of Dutch side NAC Breda, Prince Tagoe of Al-Ittifaq and former Asante Kotoko hit-man, Eric Bekoe have partnered each other at various times in the absence of the once-dreaded marksman.

Milovan told GNA Sports that he expects the Stade Rennais attacker's return to be strong enough to justify his claim for his position as the top marksman of the Black Stars. "Asamoah was the first choice before his injury, and he must demonstrate that he merits a place in the first team." The Serb reckons the former Udinese player's return gives him striking options as he seeks to find the potent attacking pair ahead of the final qualifying rounds for the 2010 World Cup/Africa Cup of Nations. "It is always best to have options in attack, which is a sign of a good team." Milovan plans to assess Israeli-based Samuel Yeboah in his bid to diagnose a remedy to the Stars attacking set-up. This will be the first time Asamoah will be featuring for the Stars since the Serb took over the reigns last August.

Asamoah, who turns 24 in November, has scored 13 times in 27 appearances for the Stars since making his debut in 2003. He scored Ghana's first goal at the World Cup, against Czech Republic and maintained that feat during the Ghana 2008 Africa Cup of Nations, with the first goal of the tournament against Guinea.
