Minister for Youth & Sports in Glasgow

The Minister for Youth & Sports, Hon. Mahama Ayariga has this morning joined Ghana's contingent in Glasgow for the Commonwealth Games. The contingent moves into the Olympics Village today after about two weeks of preparation in Scotland to acclimatize. The Hon. Minister will visit them in the village to assess their situation and level of preparation.

Hon Ayariga who took over about two weeks ago as Ghana's Youth & Sports Minister will join colleague Ministers of sports of the Commonwealth in a five hour meeting at the Hilton Glasgow.

The Minister says his agenda at this meeting is to begin a programme to improve Ghana's badly affected image following Brazil 2014 and establish the needed network to execute a strategy to develop the lesser attended- to sports in Ghana.

Speaking from Glasgow, he announced a stake-holders' conference immediately after Glasgow to review the situation of the lesser attended-to sports and develop a comprehensive strategy to develop them. The Minister recently convened a similar meeting to deal with football.

The leadership of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) assured the Minister of the readiness of Team Ghana to make our nation proud. Their preparation so far has been good. Hon. Mahama Ayariga will head back home after interacting with the team members in the Olympic village later in the afternoon.
