Minister inspects offices for C/R Boxing Association

Cape Coast, Jna.24, GNA - The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports has pledged to give its support to the Central Regional branch of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) to promote boxing in the Region. Mr Kwadwo Baah-Wiredu, the acting Minister gave the assurance when he inspected work on new offices being constructed for the GBA branch at Cape Coast on Saturday.

The three-room offices estimated at 110 million cedis, is being jointly funded by the GBA, the Regional Co-ordinating Council with contributions from some organisations and individuals.

Mr Baah-Wiredu commended Mr Twintoh Walker, Chairman of the branch for the progress of work on the building and suggested the provision of an emergency exit and that one of the offices be converted into a Hall of Fame to honour distinguished sports men and women in the Region. He told the acting Minister that the branch has plans to initiate the formation of boxing clubs in all the Districts of the Region to rekindle the people's interest in the sport.

He said a boxing club has already been formed at Elmina to cater for boxing enthusiasts in the Edina-Eguafo-Abrem District with assistance from the Member of Parliament for the area, Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom. Mr Walker therefore appealed to District Chief Executives, organisations and individuals to help develop similar clubs in the other Districts.

Mr Walker conducted the Minister and his entourage round the building which was started two years ago, and is expected to be completed by March.
