Accra, Feb. 24, GNA - The Ministry of Youth and Sports has sent a congratulatory message to President of the Ghana Football Association, Kwes= i Nyantakyi for his election to the Executive Committee of the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) last Wednesday.
A congratulatory statement signed on behalf of the sector minister, Clement Humado by Michael Akwasi Sarpong, Head of Public Relations at the MYS, described the victory as a landslide one and a boost for Ghana football. It said 93I hope and pray that Nyantakyi will bring his leadership qualities and experience to bear on African football. "I wish the GFA President well in his new appointment and assure him of my support. I also extend my warmest appreciation to the campaign team of Mr Nyantakyi for the good work done," said Humado.
Nyantakyi polled 34 votes to beat his opponent Anjorin Moucharafou of Benin who had 19 votes.
He becomes the fifth Ghanaian after Ohene Djan (1961-1966), Kobina Hagan (1961-1962), Nana Fredua Mensah (1968-1972) and Samuel Okyere (1990-1994) to sit on the Executive Committee of the continent's soccer governing body.
Nyantakyi was elected alongside Zambia legend Kalusha Bwalya, Leodegar Tenga of Tanzania whilst Tarek Bouchamaoui of Tunisia and Omari Constant of DR Congo were elected unopposed.
