Rangers midfielder, Mohammed Diomande, has been named in Ivory Coast's squad for the FIFA World Cup qualifiers after declining an opportunity to represent Ghana.

The midfielder had contemplated playing for Ghana at the national level and was included in the Black Stars squad in March 2024 by coach Otto Addo.

However, Diomande did not accept the invitation, stating that he needed more time to take a decision on his international career.

The Ivorian Football Federation succeeded in persuading Diomande to represent his country of birth.

Mohammed Diomande developed his skills as a young footballer in Ghana at the renowned Right to Dream Academy.

As Ivory Coast prepares to face Gabon and Kenya in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers, Diomande's addition is expected to enhance the midfield of the Elephants.

Currently, Ivory Coast is top of Group F with six points after two matches.
