AS Roma tormentor Mohammed Salah says he decision to take the penalty that was awarded the Pharaohs in their 2-0 win over Ghana was backed by his teammates.
According to Salah, the team chose him to take the spot kick which he excellently did to put Egypt in front in the 43rd minute.
“I agreed with Abdallah before the game to let me take the penalty, if we were awarded one,” he said.
“When we were awarded the penalty, he asked me to take it,”
The AS Roma winger expressed his satisfaction following his side’s victory over Ghana.
“Winning the game was the most important thing. We hope to win our next two games against Uganda as it will make our qualification process easier,” Salah said.
“It was a tough game but we achieved our target,” he added.
Egypt will face Uganda away when the World Cup qualifiers resume in August 2017, before the Pharaohs host them less than a week later in Egypt.
Salah also expressed his gratitude to his teammate Abdallah El-Said, Egypt’s and Al Ahly’s usual penalty taker, for letting him take the penalty against the Black Stars.
