Black Stars defender Mohammed Salisu has cautioned that Ghana faces a formidable challenge in their upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Mali in Bamako.

In an interview following the team's training session at the University of Ghana Stadium in Legon, Salisu recognized the strength of the Malian team and stressed the importance of thorough preparation.

"We know it's not going to be easy with Mali. They have a strong team, and I think we need to prepare well for this game," Salisu informed reporters.

The Black Stars have experienced a mixed start in Group I of the World Cup qualifiers, securing one win and one loss in their initial two matches.

They commenced their campaign with a 1-0 victory over Madagascar in Kumasi, but subsequently suffered a 1-0 defeat to Comoros in Moroni.

Currently positioned 4th in the group, Ghana is determined to return to winning ways and enhance prospects of qualifying for the World Cup, set to take place in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

The pivotal qualifier against Mali is scheduled for Thursday, June 6, 2024, at Stade 26 Mars in Bamako, with a 19:00 kickoff.

After the Mali encounter, Ghana will compete against the Central African Republic at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Monday, June 10, 2024.
