Mona, Allotey Retain Tafo Trophies

ROBERT ALLOTEY of Celebrity, and hard-core golfer, Mona Captan of Achimota, last Saturday, December 3, confirmed their superiority over their competitors, in the men and ladies scratch divisions, respectively. The two golfers brushed aside all opposition, to retain the titles they respectively won last year.

Mona Captan won the annual championship for the sixth unprecedented time, when she bagged a gross of 169, ahead of Grace Afriyie, who returned 176 gross. G. Lupiac of Tafo followed Grace, with 186 gross.

In the men?s version, Robert Allotey returned 142 net score, to come out as winner, in the men?s division, while P. Paitey and Kwadjo Kyei bagged a net score of 153 and 155, in that order, to place second and third, correspondingly. Christopher Mbir, a 15-year-old pupil of Cocoa Research Institute of Ghana, was crowned the winner in the youth division. Playing under handicap 18, Christopher managed to beat his twin brother, Christian, on higher count-back, after both had scored a net of 70. Afriyie Nyarko placed third, with a net score of 72.

The CEO of Unique Trust, Mr. Prince Kofi Amoateng, in his address, expressed gratitude to the golfers for participating, and promised his outfit?s continuous support for the sport.

Mary Morgan emerged winner in the handicap competition, after grossing 151, with a handicap of 21.

?I was sure I would win this tournament, but I had a slight problem, that?s why I lost out.

But I am not worried at all, because we know we have a quality winner in Mona. She is a definitive star, but I have played with Mona, several times now, and I can promise that, I would end her dominance, here, next year,? Mary indicated. For Mrs. Owusu-Baah, it was her first time in competing at Tafo; of course she didn?t win, but she confessed to a new-found love.

?Tafo Golf course is very good, this is my first time of playing here, and I confess it is the best?.

Two days of fierce golfing in a traditional countryside, provided what the organisers branded, a ?Unique Golfing Experience?. The event, dubbed, ?10th Tafo Golf Open Championship?, was sponsored by Unique Trust Financial Services.

The event attracted about 100 golfers, including seven professionals, and 20 ladies, nationwide.
