Mosay doesn't deserve RTP Sports show host award

I am not against his success neither do I envy the award he
has won but fact is fact.
There is no way one can compare himself to a person who hosts
a programme in English because the easiest dialect for programme hosting is one’s
own local dialect.
So looking at the nominees for the Radio Sports Show Host of
the year by Radio and TV Personalities (RTP) award 2013 version, having the
likes of Nathaniel Attoh of Joy FM fame in that category, l presumed if the
award voting criteria had not been handed out to the populace to decide, the so-called
winner Moses Antwi Benefo AKA PJ Mosay wouldn't have come that far in that
category.
The criterion of public voting to decide a winner in any
award event to me, is not the best and it ends out giving the award to an unmerited
fellow. That’s why there is a difference in BBC African best player award and
CAF best player of the year award. Whilst, the former uses the idea of public
voting, the latter makes sure that they use those who have experience and
knowledge of the event to decide, so their choice doesn't conflict itself.
Moses Antwi Benefo, in terms of sports hosting in Ghana,
even comes nowhere near Dan Kwaku Yeboah and Charles Osei Asibey of Peace
and Happy FM fame respectively in that category of nominees. Awards of this
calibre if not the decision of the populace, must go by consistency as one
of the criteria in picking the winner.
PJ Mosay won the award in the name of yesterday's established
radio station, Metro FM. So if the award is for the achievement of the whole
year, how come the winner of the award hailed from a radio station which has not
been in the system even for 8 months?
What I know about this award is that, a candidate or radio
station owner can buy as much as any amount of credit and distribute to many
people to vote on his or her behalf hence the credibility of awards like FIFA
Ballon d’Or is completely non-existent here.
To me , awards must be won on merit, therefore the
management of RTP Awards must come again to reshuffle the idea of the criteria
they use in selecting the winner so as to see the true winner. To me, Nathaniel
Attoh without doubt should have won this year’s RTP Sports Host of the year
award and no PJ Mosay.
I am done. Thank you very much.
