Medeama president Moses Armah says he's proud of his players despite their 3-1 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns in the first leg tie of their CAF Confederation Cup playoff.

The Ghanaians capitulated at the death to lose to the Brazilians at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Pretoria on Saturday night.

Sundowns left it until the last ten minutes but turned around a 1-0 deficit to win 3-1 against the two-time Ghanaian FA Cup champions, leaving their opponent with a mountain to climb in the reverse fixture.

But despite the setback, Medeama president Moses Armah hailed the players, insisting his side will overturn the deficit.

"I want to congratulate you for the performance today. Unfortunately, it wasn't the result we had anticipated," he told the players after the game

"You should not be downhearted. This is football and anything can happen.

"The tie is not over. It's far from over. We have the second leg to look to and we're going to overturn it," he said amid applause

"Let's put this defeat behind us and look ahead to the return leg in Sekondi.

"Ghanaians have confidence in us and we should go out there and make them proud."

The reverse fixture will take place at the Sekondi Stadium on May 18.
