Slowly but surely, the sod cutting for the construction of the multipurpose Youth Resource Centres across the nation is nearing completion.

So far, the Youth and Sports Minister, Isaac Kwame Asiamah and Emmanuel Asigiri, CEO, National Youth Authority (NYA) have succeeded in breaking grounds at Kaneshie, Azumah Nelson Complex (Greater Accra), Ho (Volta), Koforidua (Eastern), Axim (Western), Nyinahin (Ashanti) and Dunkwa-On-Offin (Central).

And breaking the ground for the Central Region project in Dunkwa-On-Offin on Monday, the Sports Minister announced that Dormaa ( Brong Ahafo), Navrongo and Yendi(Upper) are scheduled for sod cutting this weekend and next week.

Apart from the Volta Region facility which has a ten thousand sitting capacity, the rest are five thousand FIFA standard capacity each, eight-lane athletics track, basketball, volleyball, tennis Courts, ICT Centre, Entrepreneurship/ Counseling Centres, washrooms, and a modern restaurant.

The $1.8m each facilities are expected to be completed nine months after the respective sod cuttings.

That, to the minister, fulfills government’s bid to provide modern day sports infrastructure for the youth in a year.

To the minister, the initiative was aimed at providing sports infrastructure across the nation to ensure Ghana prepare more athletes with a double-edged mission of empowering the youth to win more medals for the country.

The Minister said after the Dunkwa-On-Offin sod cutting ceremony that “The president has a vision for the youth-to provide modern state-of-the-art sporting facilities across the nation, intervene properly, and that is what we are doing. Ghana over the years has not invested properly in sports infrastructure.”

He added “We can boast of more medals by the construction of such facilities, making sure that we prepare our sportsmen adequately for tournaments.”
