Muntari hails Essien, Torres

Sulley Muntari has hailed the impact of compatriot Michael Essien and Spanish Fernando Fernando for AC Milan.

The Rossoneri won 3-1 in Verona last Sunday and showed improvement in their game after the international break, to the encouragement of their midfielder.

“It could be a turning point in our season. We really worked hard during the break,” Muntari told Milan Channel.

“We are happy for both the performance and the result. Stadio Bentegodi is a tough place to go and it was important to win.”

According to the former Portsmouth man, two other Premier League imports are doing well in Serie A at the moment.

“Fernando Torres is a really important player for us. He moves well on the pitch, so we are happy that he plays for us.

“Also Michael Essien responded well and he embodies our group’s strength because all those who took the pitch in the second half did well.

“We must stay grounded and keep doing well.”

But there’s also another teammate who holds a special place in Muntari’s heart.

Goalkeeper Christian Abbiati is 37 and despite some blunders, has still played a part in Milan’s start to the season.

“‘The Uncle’ is a symbol to me and he helps me both on and off the pitch. He doesn’t talk much, but he’s got a great attitude.

“There aren’t many men like him. When I speak to him, he really gives me great energy.

“And the same applies to Coach Pippo Inzaghi who is helping us a lot and we’re doing really well also thanks to him.”

On Sunday Milan face an inconsistent Fiorentina side, but one Muntari wants his teammates to stay aware of.

“We want to win every game. The season is still long. Against Fiorentina it will be a difficult game, but we want to win.”
