My 'football age' is 50, but my first child is 47 - Former Ghanaian footballer reveals

Former Asante Kotoko player, Ntow Gyan, has made a compelling argument against the practice of age cheating in football.

In an interview on Peace FM, hosted by Dan Kwaku Yeboah, the ex-footballer disclosed his own issue with age cheating and the repercussions it has had on him.

"Now, because of the issue of football age, I prefer not to mention my age so people won't know the real me, because I have reduced my actual age by 10 to 15 years. The age I am currently using is 50, but my son, who is my firstborn, is 47 years old.

"Just look at that; it is impossible for me to have done it. That is what I have used officially, so it is impossible to change it..." he said.

He explained that this situation has led to the embarrassment of having his son question him about why his official age suggests that he fathered him when he was only 3 years old, which is clearly impractical.

The issue of age cheating has been a significant concern in African football, resulting in several teams and players facing punitive actions by football governing bodies at the continental and global levels.
