Ashanti Gold head coach Bashir Hayford says determination on the part of his players aided them to secure the 2-1 victory over Asante Kotoko in the FCP Premier League on Wednesday in Obuasi.
An early goal from striker Latif Amadu was not enough for the ‘Porcupine Warriors’ to return to winning ways, as two goals from Yakubu Mohammed and Bernard Morrison ensured that the ‘Miners’ continue to stay on top of the league log.
Hayford told pressmen after the game that, although the defending league champions were equally determined to win the game to appease their fans, his players were mentally strong on the day, adding that it was a tough game because both sides were tactically disciplined.
"It has been a very hectic game. Somebody outside might think it was an easy game. It was very tough and full of tactics. You could see the determination written on the faces of Asante Kotoko players, but their might was not able to conquer ours. At a point in time I thought we would lose after they took the lead. We went to the dressing room, and when we came back, my boys were even determined than me. So it was out of the determination that they equalized and got the second goal.’’
