Former Ghana under-17 striker and new Berekum Chelsea recruit Sadick Adams has rejected claims that his once-promising career has stalled, adding that he’s looking forward to winning trophies with the Ghana top flight.
The 25-year-old frontman has completed a move to Chelsea ahead of the 2015-16 Ghana Premier League season, having struggled to make any significant impact abroad for the likes of Spanish side Atletico Madrid, Etoile Sportive du Sahel of Tunisia, Serbian outfit FK Vojvodina and Saudi Arabian clubs Al-Ansar, Saham FC, Al-Nahda and Al-Freiha.
“I don’t think my career has been bad,” Adams told the Berekum Chelsea’s official website.
“A lot of my colleagues with whom I started have stopped playing football. I’m still playing football and I’m delighted to have joined Berekum Chelsea and be back playing in my country.
“My ultimate goal is to win trophies for the club – that is the aim of every player who joins Berekum Chelsea. Looking at their past achievements, I think they are one of the biggest clubs in Ghana and I believe they will play in the [Caf] Champions League again.
“Many great players such as Emmanuel Clottey, Solomon Asante, Frank Acheampong, Richard Kissi Boateng, Lee Addy, among others, have played for the club in the past. I will work hard to improve so that I can win trophies for the club this season.”
Adams joined Atletico’s youth set-up in 2008 from Ashanti Gold after impressing for Ghana at the 2007 Fifa Under-17 World Cup in South Korea. The forward scored four goals as the Black Starlets finished fourth.
Failing to make a competitive first team appearance for the La Liga side, Adams transferred to Vojvodina before joining Sahel, from where he moved to Saudi Arabia.
In 2012, he made a brief comeback to Ghana with Chelsea after a short loan stint in Libya.
