Ghana all-time record goalscorer Gyan Asamoah has hit back at the media whom he believes are trying to discredit his achievements in world football.
Portugal captain Ronaldo, grabbed headlines with his hat-trick in the 3-3 draw with Spain on Friday as he equaled an iconic record set by Pele and netted is an eight successive major tournament.
It was reported on various media outlets that the Portugal captain was the first to achieve the feat but Gyan, in fact, holds the record of nine major tournaments.
“People disregard my achievements in the World Cup history but I want the whole world to know that I have not been given the fair shake but records will remain forever,” he wrote on his official Twitter account
The former Sunderland striker scored at three FIFA World Cups (2006, 2010, 2014) and at six African Cup of Nations tournaments.
Below is Asamoah Gyan’s statistics at various tournaments
