The National Sports Authority (NSA) says it is unable to raise 74, 400 cedis monthly to maintain the football pitch at the Accra Sports Stadium.
A supreme source at the NSA told GNA Sports that, the authority was cash strapped and cannot raise a minimum of 2,400 cedis required daily to maintain the green pitch.
The source said the stadium had over the past months battled with acute water shortage, hence the need to raise funds to buy at least six trips of water at 200.00 cedis each to maintain the pitch.
This according to the source was beyond the financial strength of the NSA as they had yet to receive the annual subvention from the government.
Information gathered by the GNA Sports reveals that, an amount of 13,000,000 cedis was approved for the NSA by the government with only 33,300 cedis made available to the NSA so far.
The source said the NSA spends much of its internally generated funds on running its day to day affairs since the subvention had not been flowing as expected.
He said 40 per cent of the funds raised from the hiring of the stadium to churches and other organizations were sent to government coffers with the rest were spent on paying of allowance to administrative staff.
The pitch at the Accra Sports Stadium has turned brown and unplayable in recent months.
