Nana Bema routs field for Taysec Cup victory

Nana Bema-Tackie upstaged some of golf’s finest players at Achimota on [October 6] to take a crucial position on the leaderboard of the 4th Taysec Cup event. Nana scored a considerable 35 Stableford points off handicap 17, clinching entry to the trophies stage.
On a day when the greens were wet and firm, Nana, with substantial knowledge of yardages, hit some amazingly precise drives. However, a few wayward approach shots in the early holes almost displaced her zeal to seal an exciting game.
“I got overly cautious,” she explains. “A few of my second shots saw the bunker, but others landed in the bush. I was however confident I could roll in some brilliant pars to stay in contention for the big prize after the misses.”
Par on hole four derailed by bogeys on holes five and six didn’t dim Nana’s passion, and she regained control with three straight pars from holes 7-9 to complete the front nine.
Nana Bema Tackie observes that, overall, her tee shots on the back nine were quite consistent, coupled with fine display on the greens. Nevertheless, as so often happens in competitions, promising streaks can go in unexpected directions, as Nana recognizes.
“I knew I was still in contention to win, so was not ready to allow anything to get in my way,” she says, “but my caddy - obviously too excited after a wonderful shot on hole 14 - distracted me from my efforts! It got on my nerves a little, and I did 8.”
An astonishing 15-yard chip into the hole was a big relief en route to a truly beautiful day for Nana, who until this year had not participated in the past three editions of the annual Taysec events.
Taysec Construction’s Managing Director Geoff Fisher is committed to sponsoring the annual event as well as its monthly medal. “Taysec is an integral part of the Achimota Golf Club,” he said, “and we will continue to support the club for as long as its members support us.”
Prior to her emphatic victory, Nana pieced together a fantastic 71 off 18 at a Breast Cancer Golf event on Thursday. This annual event, which began during her reign as Ladies’ Captain at Achimota, recognizes the pressing need to raise awareness of this disease, as well as solicit support for victims.
Clara Price and B. Sowah-Allotey took second and third places respectively at the Taysec Cup event, with Stableford scores of of 35 and 34 off handicaps 20 and 16.
