The new Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Professor Peter Twumasi has assumed the office of the National Sports Authority.

This follows after the Acting Director General of the Authority Majeed Bawa officially handed over in a brief ceremony today at the Ministry.

Prof. Peter Twumasi was appointed by the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo last week Thursday to superintend over the activities of the Authority towards the realization of its mandate.

The former Acting Director General in his remarks thanked the staff of the Authority for their support and cooperation during his tenure in office. He stated that it has been very challenging, citing lack of a dedicated source of funding aside Government's releases.

Majeed Bawa further assured the new Director General of his dedication and unflinching support to develop and promote sports in Ghana.

In his acceptance remarks, Prof. Twumasi thanked President Akufo-Addo for the appointment, which portrays confidence reposed in him by the President.

He expressed his determination to promote sports at both the amateur and professional levels in an atmosphere of cooperation and fairness to enhance the image of the NSA.

Prof. Twumasi called on the NSA and the Board for their support and collaboration to achieve the task ahead.

The Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Isaac Kwame Asiamah commended the former Acting Director General for steering the affairs of the Authority when the position became vacant.

He described the sector as very difficult, challenging and most scrutinized Ministry and therefore urged Prof. Twumasi to be firm in managing the affairs of the NSA.

The Minister stressed on the need for teamwork between staff and management of the Authority.

The Minister noted that maintenance of sporting facilities has been very critical as these facilities have over the years been left to deteriorate, causing huge sums of money to renovate them.

He charged the new Director-General to fix the challenges and put up routine maintenance schedule to ensure the longevity of the facilities.

Present at the ceremony was the Chief Director, Mr. Frank Quist, representatives of the Board and Staff of the NSA.
