New Edubiase president Abdul Salam Yakubu says he “can now sleep” after seeing his side avoid relegation on the final day of the 2014-15 Ghana Premier League.

Bernard Ofori and Fuseini Nuhu each scored twice at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium as Edubiase thrashed Heart of Lions 4-2 to escape the dreaded drop, to finish on the 9th position.

After the game, the bankroller counted the blessings of what has been a difficult last few days.

“I am very happy. Now I can sleep and rest,” Yakubu was quoted as saying by Ghanasoccernet.

“It was a tough game but we managed to win this match.

“I want to thank my players and tell them I’m grateful for the show of love and commitment.”

Ahead of the last round of matches on Sunday, Edubiase found themselves lying 12th on the log, two places and a point above then relegation trapped Bechem United.

In that, they needed an outright victory to completely secure their place among Ghana’s soccer elites. Or better still, in the case of a draw or a loss, they would then have to rely on results of Medeama, Bechem United and Olympics to go in their favour to have any chance of survival.

“We are playing in the league next season and I’m very happy,” Yakubu added.

“To the management and the board, I will forever be grateful.”

Edubiase won 11 games, drew nine and lost 10 times in all, as the season came to a close on Sunday.
