New Sports Stadium for Cape Coast

UNDER THE direction of the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr. Edward Osei Kwaku, the Cape Coast Municipal Assembly (CCMA) has been charged to look for a new site for the construction of a modern stadium befitting the municipality, the region and the nation as a whole.

Following the directives, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr. Muniru Arafat Nuhu, accompanied by the chairman of the Cape Coast constituency chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. S. L. Sarbah, the Regional Football Association chairman, Mr. M. N. S. Doe and the acting stadium manager, Mr. Haruna Issah, last Wednesday, spent a whole day to acquire a plot of land for the project.

They combed the whole of the industrial area on the main Takoradi-Cape Coast and Accra road where an area has been spotted and earmarked for the new stadium.

Speaking to the Chronicle after the exercise, Arafat Nuhu said that it is the task of his team to find out who owns the vast land for negotiations.

He said it is also the responsibility of the CCMA to look for a surveyor to survey the area before a final report can be submitted to the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Meanwhile, the present Siwdu stadium will continue to be used alongside other school parks owned by Mfantsipim, Adisadel College and the St. Augustine's College.

It has, however, been indicated that following the collapse of the Gyandu park during the current incessant rains, Sekondi Hasaacas Football club is to use the Cape Coast Siwdu park as its home ground during the ongoing premier league season.
