Newmont to sponsor workers to watch Nations' Cup

Kenyase, (B/A) Jan. 12, GNA - Newmont Gold Ghana Limited, operating at Kenyase in the Asutifi District of the Brong Ahafo Region is to sponsor 15 of its workers to watch the forthcoming Confederation of African Nations' Cup football tournament in Egypt.

The lucky ones were picked through a computerized raffle organised jointly by the management of the company and the national executive of the Black

Stars Supporters Union.

Mr. Dave Ingle, Managing Director of Newmont said the mining company took the decision to sponsor the workers as a way of expressing the company's commitment to their welfare and to boost their interest in sporting activities.

He wished the Stars good luck and expressed the hope that a large number of the supporters would travel to give the team the needed moral support to win the Cup.

Mr. Geoffrey Ato Jonah, National Chairman of the Supporters Union announced that 350 members of the Union had expressed their willingness to travel to Egypt and commended the Newmont management for the sponsorship deal.

He said the Union was making all necessary efforts to secure all the necessary travelling documents for the supporters. Present at the ceremony were Mr. Churchill Armah, General Secretary of Ghana Black Stars Supporters Union and Mr. Kobby Jones, Brong-Ahafo Regional Secretary of the Union. 12 Jan 06
