Nigeria has unveiled Finidi George as the new head coach of their men's senior national team, popularly known as the Super Eagles.
The 53-year-old, who signed a two-year contract, is replacing Portuguese coach Jose Peseiro, who left the position after the 2023 AFCON.
His main task is to help Nigeria secure a spot in the 2025 African Cup of Nations in Morocco and, hopefully, replicate the feat achieved in Ivory Coast.
Finidi George began his job with the Super Eagles as an assistant coach before advancing through the ranks as an interim coach for their friendlies against Ghana and Mali, with one win and one loss [W1, L1].
He has previously served as the head coach of the Nigerian top-flight side Enyimba since September 2021.
As a player, George achieved success with Ajax, clinching the Eredivisie title and the Champions League. He also played a pivotal role in Nigeria's 1994 AFCON triumph.
His tenure will commence with Nigeria's World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin in June 2024.
