Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Vice President George Afriyie has made a startling revelation about the intentions of former Minister for Youth and Sports, Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, during his tenure.

According to Afriyie, Vanderpuye explicitly vowed to take drastic measures against him after Afriyie unknowingly signed a document that dragged the sports ministry to court.

Speaking during an interview on Asempa FM, Afriyie recounted how the then President of the GFA, Kwesi Nyantakyi, instructed him to sign a document. He later discovered that the document was a court order against the sports ministry.

“Because of how loyal I was to Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi, I signed the document without even reading its content. On my way home, I heard the news on the radio that I had sued the Serious Fraud Office. That’s when I realized what I had signed,” he said.

Afriyie further revealed how that incident provoked a strong reaction from Vanderpuye, who reportedly threatened to deal with him. At one point, Afriyie even feared for his life.

“Sly Tetteh told me to leave whatever I was doing and come to Dansoman. When I got there, they told me Nii Lantey Vanderpuye had just left and had left me with a warning that he was going to deal with me. I was scared people were going to set me up, so I traveled at that time without any luggage,” he added.

This incident, combined with concerns over trust and loyalty, is widely seen as a key factor in the fallout between Afriyie and Nyantakyi.
