Nii Lantey’s relationship with GFA “not the best” – Sannie Daara

The Ghana football Association has given hints of a frosty relationship between them and the current Sports minister Nii Lantey Vanderpuije.

The former sports presenter who was special aide to the late President John Atta Mills was appointed to the ministry in January this year. He has promised sweeping changes and transparency in the management of sports in the country.

Prior to his appointment, he was perceived as a major critic of the Nyantakyi-led association. Few weeks ago, he sparked controversy by insisting that the Black Stars be paid moderate bonuses and in the local currency, instead of the dollar, which had been the practice for some time now.

Speaking to Adam Adjei on Kasapa FM, spokesperson of the GFA Ibrahim Sannie Daara said the football association has enjoyed better relationships in the past than they have currently, with Mr. Vanderpuije.

He commended former ministers Elvis Afriyie Ankrah and Mahama Ayariga for their delivery while at the ministry.

“The relationship with him (Nii Lantey) is not of the best. We have worked with a lot of ministers since I became the Communications Director but I will want to laud two ministers, Mahama Ayariga and Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, for the great job they did for sports and the way they took sports, and not only football to heart”.
