No money for Live Coverage of CAN 2006

The ministry of education and sports says it has not made any budgetary allocation for a live coverage of the 2006 African Cup of Nations.

With just nine days to the start of the tournament, none of the local television stations has secured the rights to broadcast the games.

Ghana is required to pay eight hundred-and-seventy thousand euros to acquire rights to show live matches.

The three major television stations, GTV, TV3 and Metro TV say they are unable to raise the amount and have appealed to government for support.

Deputy Minister for education and sports, O. B Amoah says a proposal has been sent to the office of the president and the finance ministry for consideration.
