Accra, Oct. 19, GNA - The Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) has said it will bar all Ghanaian boxers from fighting in South Africa pending investigations into the recent defeats of the nation's boxers in the former apartheid country.
The decision is because the body is concerned about the rate at which some local boxers in recent times have lost fights in South Africa due to the failure of the promoters and agents to follow laid down procedures.
As a result of this, the GBA has stopped Galley Kudjo the current National Flyweight champion from taking up a challenge fight in South Africa. Speaking t o the GNA Sports, Mr Moses Foh-Amoaning, Chairman of the GBA said the Authority is alarmed at the recent spate of defeats and cited Osmanu Akaba, the World Boxing Council (WBC) International Featherweight Champion who lost his title to Jefrey Mathebula of South Africa.
The GBA Chairman said attempts by the body to get the agents to follow the right procedures by taking along with them Ghanaian judges for the fight failed since it seems the agents and promoters are only interested in making huge profits. Mr Foh-Amoaning said the GBA has requested for the videotapes of the fight for a critical study after which they will make their views known on the case.
He said that until the GBA unravels the mystery behind the recent losses "no Ghanaian boxer will be sanctioned to fight in South Africa". Apart from Akaba, two other Ghanaian boxers, Alfred Kotey and Anyetei Laryea lost their respective fights in South Africa recently.
