‘No party for Black Stars as AFCON job not yet done’

Black Stars management committee chairman George Afriyie insists the team will not be carried away by the epic win over Algeria since the ‘work’ is still not yet done.

Ghana produced an improved performance to beat the tournament favourites at the death on Friday through Asamoah Gyan to revive their campaign at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

The epic last minute win has lifted the gloom in the Black Stars camp following the disappointing 2-1 defeat suffered at the hands of Senegal in the opening Group C game.

There was sheer excitement in and around the team after Friday’s win in Mongomo. But team’s management chief says the jubilation will be measured with qualification to the quarter finals and beyond not yet secured.

“I am very relieved [over the win against Algeria] but there is still work to be done,” Afriyie told GHANAsoccernet.com.

“It was a very tough game but the most important thing is that we got the three points.

“What we want to do is to go to the next stage of the competition and so we have to put this victory behind us and prepare for the next match.

“This is a sweet victory alright but it is not party time. We need to concentrate.”

Ghana will face South Africa in their final group game on Tuesday.
