Normalisation Committee worse than Nyantakyi’s era - Football Administrator

Are Ghanaians beginning to regret the ‘ousting’ of former football association president Kwesi Nyantakyi, who resigned last year following corruption scandals in the wake of an investigative documentary produced by Anas Anas?

The Normalisation Committee, which replaced the suspended Ghana Football Association, has been getting a lot of stick from local pundits since it began work in September last year. Some argue that the Committee is sluggish or incompetent, and might not be able to resolve the country’s football problems.

The general secretary of the Ghana Coaches Association, John Quayson, is one of those who believe the Committee has not lived up to the public’s expectations, although a novelty league has been launched to keep clubs busy ahead of the regular season.

"Football is really worse under the Normalisation Committee than under Kwesi Nyantakyi dispensation. It’s so serious that we need to let them leave early. Nyantakyi was really performing, but Ghanaians wanted him out, not because of performance, but because he has kept long,” Quayson told Angel TV on Sunday.

“Things weren't that bad that we would need years or rocket scientists to solve the current situation. The intervention of Fifa was timely for some cleansing, that we could have used only few months to finish, not years.

“The administration of football is not easy. It needs people with the brains in that field, not people who read about the game. I am appealing to Dr. Kofi Amoah (NC chairman), they should not go to Afcon. Afcon is not for them. They should stay back and finish with the work on time."

The Normalisation Committee’s mandate has been extended for another six months after the initial period expired in March.
