The President of the Ghana Football Association, Kwesi Nyantakyi will not contest for the next CAF Executive Committee election following a new decision by the continent’s football governing body.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF), of which Nyantakyi is the 1st Vice President, passed a law which forbids its ExCo members who are also FIFA Council members from contesting for the position again.

A resolution which mandates that CAF ExCo members who are also FIFA Council will be automatic members on the federation’s highest position and will not contest for the election.

This means that Nyantakyi, who is also a FIFA Council member will not contest for the CAF ExCo position elections when it is due because he is an automatic member by virtue of his FIFA Council position.

This new resolution will give way to seven new members of CAF to be elected onto the ExCo to increase the membership from 16 to 23.

In March this year, Kwesi Nyantakyi was re-elected onto the FIFA Council after beating off competition from Leodegar Tenga in Addis Ababa.

The GFA President won by 13 votes securing 33 out of the 53 votes with the Tanzanian gaining the remaining 20 thus winning 62.6% of the votes.
