Ghana Football Association boss Kwasi Nyantakyi is far from enthused about recent comments from ex players asking for wives and girlfriends of footballers to be present at the World Cup.
Although several ex-Black Stars players like Augustine Arhinful, Samuel Osei Kuffour, Stephen Appiah are in support of the call to sanction the visit of the WAGS to the camp of the team during the mundial, the GFA boss says he is not convinced.
“Although the World has changed, whatever changes we make should be able to have an impact on our lives,” Nyantakyi.
“I ask myself, is it that the WAGS issue is a new thing that is why we should adopt it or is that the English are practicing it in their national team, so we should follow suit?
“Ghana went to the World Cup in Germany and South Africa without WAGS, but the team did so well, so why should we experiment it this time.
“For me I need to be convinced, why there should be the need to make it official. There should be compelling reasons why this new trend should be adopted.”
Ghana is in group ‘G’ tagged the group of death with Portugal, USA and Germany and will play their opening group game against USA on 16 June in Natal during the World Cup in Brazil.
