Nyantakyi receives backing from football chiefs

Ghana FA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi has received the backing of the country’s football chiefs’ ahead of next year’s congress.

Nyantakyi’s nine-year reign has come under the scrutiny following the Black Stars shambolic performance at the recently concluded 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

The heightened speculation about moves to unseat him was further boosted following an altercation with a top official of the ruling National Democratic Congress Harry Zakkour during a stakeholders meeting to review the country’s poor performance at this year’s FIFA World Cup in Brazil last week.

Zakkour, a former chairman of local giants Hearts of Oak, together with his friend Joseph Ade Coker, Greater Accra chairman of the NDC have vowed to hound Nyantakyi out of office and are deploying several strategies to make him unpopular, according to the Ghanaian media.

The Ghana FA will go to the polls to elect new officers next year, but it is widely believed that Nyantakyi will sweep the votes due to his popularity with the delegates, hence the agenda to frustrate him to quit the post.

But the ambitious lawyer has received the backing from chairmen of majority of top Premier League clubs ahead of next year’s delegate congress.

New Edubiase president Abdul Salam Yakubu has offered his unflinching support to the under-fire Ghana FA boss.

“I support Kwesi and I believe we’re in the majority. He has done a lot for Ghana football and deserve a third chance at the presidency,” he said

“He’s human and so may have made some mistakes but I believe his positives far outweigh his negatives.

“As far as Edubiase is concerned, he has our total support. I have been speaking with lots of people, and I get the firm believe that he will record landslide victory.”

King Faisal president Alhaji Karim Gruzah also says the FA capo will get his nod for a third time.

“Nyantakyi has my full support. If I need to advise him, I will do so privately.” he told Accra-based Happy FM on Thursday.

Ghanaian president John Dramani Mahama has instituted a Commission of Enquiry to investigate the circumstances that led to the country’s poor showing in the South American country.

Former Ghana FA vice-president Ade Coker and ex-Hearts chairman Harry Zakkour have vowed to kick Nyantakyi out of his office, according to reports in the local media.
