Glasgow Rangers boss Alex McLeish could be set to swoop for Everton's Alex Nyarko, if a proposed move to Monaco falls through.
Nyarko's good form this season has attracted interest from a number of continental clubs, with Gers boss McLeish understood to be watching developments very closely. McLeish could lose Barry Ferguson in the summer, and believes Nyarko could be the perfect candidate to bolster the Ibrox squad.
Nyarko, who arrived at Everton for £4.5million from Lens, said he would never play for the club again after the well-documented incident at Highbury last term when an incensed fan confronted the midfielder on the pitch and suggested he was not fit to wear a Blues shirt. He is currently on an extended loan spell with Monaco and had hoped to make the move permanent at the end of this season.
However, financial problems at the French club suggest a full-time transfer may now not be able to go ahead as planned.
